Thank you for joining us on a powder, ramen, and onsen-filled tour through Central Hokkaido.
On this trip, we’ll focus on backcountry skiing in some of Japan’s premier touring locations, namely the Daisetsuzan national park.
Along the way, we’ll share our knowledge of the local terrain and culture, and be sure to take a moment at the end of each day to enjoy a crisp Japanese beer while the snow falls outside.
The locations we visit are the same ones we’ve been guiding in for the past 40 years, and we’re excited to welcome you into the fun.

For over 40 years, Alpine Backcountry Guides has been introducing skiers to the exceptional snow, mountains, and culture of Hokkaido.
Founded by John Morrell in 1984, originally operating as Journey into Japan, the company was guiding guests through Hokkaido long before Japan's powder snow gained international recognition. What began as a passion for sharing the region's incredible skiing has grown into one of Japan's most experienced backcountry operations.
While much has changed over the decades, our philosophy remains the same: delivering outstanding skiing experiences through expert guiding, local knowledge, and a genuine connection to the mountains. Today, Alpine Backcountry Guides continues to create memorable journeys that combine world-class skiing with the unique culture and hospitality of Hokkaido.
