Alpine Backcountry Guide will liaise with the group after they complete self transfer to Accomodation in Furano. Go through tour preparation list and set up any equipment required.
First day on snow, the group will be introduced to the local terrain and areas by starting with a day of skiing at one of the many local ski areas. After a full day of sidecountry and lift accessed backcountry skiing the group will return to their accomodation to relax in preparation for the following days.
The group will explore the numerous local zones bases on weather conditions and the team’s preferences. There are some really incredible backcountry areas and resorts scattered around Furano including Sahoro, Tomamu, Mt Racey, the Tokachi mountains, the Yubari mountains, Furano resort, Kamui, Asahidake and many more in between. Your guide will lead these days at their own discretion, utilising our teams 40+ years of experience guiding in the local area, monitoring weather and snow conditions to put the group in the best snow each day.
At the end of the 17th the group will enjoy a celebratory dinner in downtown Furano, courtesy of Alpine Backcountry guides.
Final day. The group will arrange their own departure details and check out of Alpine Backcountry provided accomodation before heading onwards in their travels.
For over 40 years, Alpine Backcountry Guides has been introducing skiers to the exceptional snow, mountains, and culture of Hokkaido.
Founded by John Morrell in 1984, originally operating as Journey into Japan, the company was guiding guests through Hokkaido long before Japan's powder snow gained international recognition. What began as a passion for sharing the region's incredible skiing has grown into one of Japan's most experienced backcountry operations.
While much has changed over the decades, our philosophy remains the same: delivering outstanding skiing experiences through expert guiding, local knowledge, and a genuine connection to the mountains. Today, Alpine Backcountry Guides continues to create memorable journeys that combine world-class skiing with the unique culture and hospitality of Hokkaido.
